A global product company building large-scale, decision-critical systems is expanding its R&D hub in Lisbon, and looking for a skilled Backend Developer to join the team.
You’ll work on real-time, cloud-native architecture that powers complex processes at scale, with full ownership and a modern tech stack.
You’ll own features end-to-end, shape architecture, and work with a high-caliber team that values clean code, autonomy, and engineering excellence.
What You’ll Be Working On
- High-scale, low-latency backend services in Scala (or Java)
- Real-time decision engines, data pipelines, and event-based architecture (Kafka, Spark)
- Microservices deployed via Docker & Kubernetes in a cloud environment (AWS)
- Systems that ingest and process thousands of events per second — with uptime, observability, and speed as core priorities
- Full software lifecycle – plan, code, deploy, monitor
Tech Stack
Scala, Kafka, Spark, K8s, Docker, Aerospike, ElasticSearch, AWS, GitOps, CI/CD
This is a full time Hybrid position, working 2 days a week from home.
Who You Are
- 3+ years of backend development experience in JVM-based languages
- Production experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, Azure)
- Solid knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes, and microservice design
- Familiarity with functional programming principles (you’ve practiced or are eager to dive in)
- Strong ownership mindset — you care how your code behaves in production
- Based in Portugal (or able to work hybrid from Lisbon), with valid work authorization
Nice to Have
- Experience with data streaming or distributed systems
- CI/CD ownership, GitOps workflows
- Interest in system design and scalability challenges
